Looking for a fun way to spend your lunch break downtown? Join Hennepin Arts for Summer Showtunes, a free afternoon celebrating Broadway, local theater and the joy of singing together on Thursday, July 23 from noon to 3 p.m. in the Orpheum Stage Lot (10th Street and Hennepin Avenue) next to the historic Orpheum Theatre.
Presented as part of the Minneapolis Aquatennial, Summer Showtunes brings the community together for an afternoon of live entertainment, great food and downtown fun. The whole community is invited to take in live performances, Broadway favorites, delicious food and activities for all ages.
Whether you're a lifelong musical theater fan or simply looking for a fun summer outing, Summer Showtunes is the perfect opportunity to experience the energy of downtown Minneapolis while celebrating Minnesota's vibrant performing arts community.
The afternoon begins with DJ Generation spinning Broadway hits, movie musical favorites and singalong classics while guests grab lunch, explore the event and settle in for the festivities.
The heart of the afternoon features performances from some of Minnesota's outstanding theater artists and organizations, including Spotlight Education alums Will Dusek and performers from Children's Theatre Company, Artistry Theater & Visual Arts and Chanhassen Dinner Theatres.
Brave New Workshop will also be on stage with improvised mini-musicals.
And to cap it off, we'll have two special performances from the cast of WICKED, now playing at the historic Orpheum Theatre
Summer Showtunes offers plenty to explore throughout the afternoon, including:
Lunch available for purchase from Revival and Happy Nibbles, along with sweet treats and confections
A selfie station and fun photo opportunities
Picnic tables and gathering spaces to relax and eat
Prize drawings featuring WICKED and Brave New Workshop ticket packages paired with downtown restaurant gift cards
An exclusive opportunity to purchase advance rush tickets for WICKED at the Hennepin Arts Box Office. These discounted prices are typically only available in person on the day of a performance, but for one afternoon only, guests can secure advance rush tickets while supplies last.
