Honored Individuals
Individual performers and technicians can participate in Spotlight Showcase in a variety of ways. See each section below for eligibility and participation information.
Musical Honorees
Students that receive an Outstanding or Honorable Mention honor for their performance in a Spotlight-evaluated musical have the option to participate and perform in the Musical Honorees production number -OR- be featured as a host at Spotlight Showcase. Students learn and rehearse this musical number with the Spotlight Showcase artistic staff during rehearsal week.
Honored Actors
Students that receive an Outstanding or Honorable Mention honor for their performance in a Spotlight-evaluated play -OR- musical will be featured as hosts of Spotlight Showcase. Students learn and rehearse the script with the Spotlight Showcase artistic staff during rehearsal week.
Seniors
Any graduating senior attending a Spotlight school can participate and perform in the Senior Number at Spotlight Showcase. Students learn and rehearse this musical number with the Spotlight Showcase artistic staff during rehearsal week.
Featured Dancer
Two (2) students per Spotlight school (nominated by director) with a specialty in dance participate and perform in the Featured Dance production number at Spotlight Showcase. Students learn and rehearse this dance number with the Spotlight Showcase artistic staff during rehearsal week. Graduating seniors in this number are also eligible for the Ferrell Dance Award (see info below).
Ferrell Dance Award
The Ferrell Dance Award is dedicated to the memory of our dear friend and veteran Spotlight choreographer, Michael Matthew Ferrell, and given to two (2) senior Featured Dancers demonstrating leadership, fearlessness and passion in the rehearsal and performance space. The award recipient will receive a cash prize that may be used towards training that leads to a certificate or a higher skill level after completing high school. Funding for the Ferrell Dance Award is made possible by the support of Tina Krech and Galleria Edina.
School Representatives
Two (2) student School Representatives per Spotlight school (nominated by director) participate and perform in a production number at Spotlight Showcase. Students learn and rehearse this musical number with the Spotlight Showcase artistic staff during rehearsal week.
Honored Technicians
Students that receive an Outstanding or Honorable Mention honor for their work as a technician in a Spotlight-evaluated musical or play participate in one of the following ways: building Spotlight Showcase creative scenic elements, assisting the State Theatre crew and Showcase production team for the load-in or assisting in load-out for Spotlight Showcase.
