OFFICIAL TICKET SOURCES While it’s tempting to get tickets any way you can, there are many sites and people who are selling overpriced, and in some cases, fraudulent tickets. If you buy from a ticket reseller, Hennepin Arts cannot guarantee the legitimacy of your ticket, and you risk being denied admission, refunds and/or exchanges, and updates in real time should there be any changes to the status of the show. We urge you to buy only from our authorized ticketing agents.

Ticketmaster is the only authorized ticketing agent for online purchases. For the best seats, the best prices and to eliminate the risk of counterfeit tickets, all purchases should be made directly through Ticketmaster, HennepinArts.org or in person at the State Theatre Box Office at the appropriate time. Before the show makes it to Broadway, they typically rehearse and open in another city. Like Disney’s The Lion King that premiered at the Orpheum in Minneapolis before it made its way to Broadway. Purple Rain will premiere in here and then plans to run on Broadway.

Because there is no better place than Prince’s hometown for this premiere!

The capacity of the State Theatre is 2,150 and is closer in size to a Broadway theatre in New York.

Preview performances happen before the official opening night. It’s still a full-scale production, but it’s an exciting time when the creative team is fine tuning the show based on the response and energy of a live audience. Basically, you get to be part of the shaping the show.

Sometimes the creative team may stop the show if they are having a technical issue or want to see something again. This is rare but was rumored to happen during the stampede scene in The Lion King. (True story and such an impressive scene!)

The show will be “frozen” by opening night which means every performance will be the same going forward. For example, something seen in one of the preview performances may not exist in the frozen performance, which means people seeing that performance are seeing something no one else has seen. Rest assured, both preview and frozen performances are full-scale productions but may have slight differences.
