New studios are coming to downtown Minneapolis, and local artists are invited to be among the first to preview the brand new space!
Zero Empty Spaces is transforming 815 Nicollet Mall — the former Walgreens on Nicollet Mall — into a working artist studio hub housing approximately 12 local creatives. The launch event takes place on Saturday, March 7 at 1 p.m., with artists moving in the following week.
Here’s the idea:
• Turn vacant storefronts into active, public-facing studios • Provide affordable 24-hour access for artists • Take no commission on sales • Keep the doors open so the public can see creativity in action
Artists commit to working onsite during public hours each week, ensuring the space stays energized and accessible.
Located just steps from the Orpheum, State and Pantages, this activation strengthens downtown’s cultural density and creates new opportunities for pre- and post-show exploration.
The goal is simple: activate space quickly, support artists meaningfully and contribute to a more vibrant, walkable downtown.
Who This Is For
Visual artists seeking an affordable, professional studio
Creatives ready to move out of isolation and into a shared creative environment
Artists looking for consistency, community, and visibility
